Obituary of Sharon Beck Roy

Sharon Beck Roy (age 78) died peacefully at her home with family by her side on Friday February 12, 2021. Sharon was born on January 27, 1943 in Burlington Vermont. Her parents were Bruno and Ruth (McKenzie) Beck. Sharon graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1961. She then attended an Albany NY nursing school specializing in caring for children with spina bifida. As a child, Sharon spent summers in South Hero at her family camp. At age 11, Sharon meet a boy and went home to tell her mother that she had found the boy she was going to marry. That boy was John Roy. John and Sharon married on Halloween in 1964. They both took over the Roy Farm where they raised their 3 children. Then Sharon spent over 30 years working at the South Hero town office where she started as an assistant then moved into the full time town clerk and treasurer position. Sharon enjoyed the work as town clerk, but loved interacting with the residents of South Hero who came into the office even more. In her later years her passion was to be with her grandchild and great grandchildren. A typical day for Sharon would be: play games, enjoy any water sport the children wanted to do, or just sit on the porch and watch the kids play! Sharon will always be remembered for her heart of gold and the ability to tell you the truth even if you don’t want to hear it. Sharon is survived by her husband John, her 3 children Michelle, John Henry, Cecile Gove and her husband Michael. 2 grandsons Johnny and his wife Samantha and Zackary and his partner Lena. Great grandchildren Aiyana, Makaiya, Jackson, Alexander, Jayce, and Isabella. Her siblings Ellen, Peter, Anne, Walter and wife Adel, Susie and husband Put, Barbara and husband George. Sharon is preceded by her parents, her in-laws Bernard and Lorena Roy, her brother Tommy, sisters Nancy and Gloria, her brothers-in-law Larry, Red and Bob and sister in-law Debbie. There will be a mass for the family (date to be announced) and followed with a grave side service this summer.
