Obituary of Kenneth Wesley Clark

South Hero - Kenneth W. Clark ended his long and enjoyable life Dec. 9th at home with his wife of 53 years, Peggy Henry Clark. He is survived by his sons Ken (Kim) and their daughter Ella of Manchester. NH, and Tim (Delia) and their daughters Mara, Sofia, and Elena, of Andover, Ma. One of eight children, he is survived by his sister Marjorie Phillips, of Toronto, Canada and brother Murray Clark of Lachine, Quebec, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in St. John, NB, Canada, he volunteered at the age of 16 to fight in WWII. He went to signal school in Quebec & England. Stringing the communication lines for the Cameron Highlanders put him on the front lines, but it also wheted his interest in in electronics and a degree in EE from U New Brunswick. This led to a career at IBM, with many years as a systems analyst. Growing up near the Bay of Fundy, Ken dived off the rocks and swam in the eddies. As a youth he won several speed skating trophies, including silver medalist for the North American Speed Skating championships. He developed his lifelong love of cross-country and downhill skiing. When he retired he joined the Smuggs 55+ Club, skiing until the age of 94. For many years he entertained them with an appropriate poem each week. He was a licensed pilot, golfed and sailed. Biking the Burlington – South Hero Rec Path was an important part of his life. When he could no longer bike, he would walk out to the ferry. The captains were so gracious in listening to his stories and sometimes offering a free ride. Please consider a donation in his memory to Local Motion, 1 Steele St., Burlington, Vt. 05446 We also thank the UVM Home Health & Hospice, who made it possible for Ken to spend his final days at home. We especially thank Kelly and Michelle who were present at his passing. Gifts in his memory may be sent to Home Health & Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.
