Obituary of Rose Angelina "Angie" Raftery
Milton – Rose Angelina “Angie” Raftery, 88, died Friday evening, Oct. 23, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Angie was born on March 9, 1932 in Burlington, the daughter of Luigi and Crocefissa (Brusso) Ponti.
She went to Burlington High School, graduating in 1950, never missing a day of school in 12 years and where she excelled at softball. After graduating, she played on a women’s league.
She was very talented in Art and was offered a scholarship to an art school but was unable to attend. She attend Burlington High School, graduating in 1950.
She played for the Elks Club in the Burlington Girls Softball League for many years, winning several championships.
She went to work for New England Telephone, and later by the Federal Government for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, she found the job she enjoyed most, working for the Town of Milton and the CSWD, where she worked for 24 years, making numerous friends throughout the years.
Angie was an avid Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots fan. She had a team for every season. She also loved taking regular bus trips to gamble with friends at the casinos.
On September 5, 1955, she married James Raftery in Burlington. Together they had 7 children, Karen LaRose of St. Albans, Thomas Raftery and wife Gail Haupt Raftery of Milton, Kathleen Raftery and John Selden of Swanton, Matthew Raftery and his wife Tonia of Bakersfield, John Raftery and Julie Johnston of East Fairfield, Daniel Raftery and his wife Carrie of Milton and Jennifer Allard and her husband Chris of Milton, Jimmy’s children Maureen Bourque of Essex, James “Kip” Raftery and his wife Mary Jane of Richmond and Kevin Raftery and his wife Terie of Fl., by 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and her faithful buddy Odie.
She was predeceased by her husband James Raftery on January 12, 1994, her son-in-law Steve LaRose her only sibling, her brother Salvatore Ponti, in the Korean War, and by her 4 legged friends Chelsie and Candy.
Visiting hours will be on Thurs. Oct. 29, 2020 from 4-7pm with a service at 7pm at the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be on Friday October 30, 2020 at 10 am at the FT. Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
