Obituary of Ellen Lawrence Deo
Grand Isle – Ellen Lawrence Deo, 83, died peacefully October 8, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Ellen was born at home in Grand Isle on September 5, 1937.
On November 14, 1959, she married Donald James Deo at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in So. Hero.
She received her Assoc. Degree in Para Education and used this degree working for the Grand Isle Elementary School and then opened a daycare in Grand Isle for a number of years following. Ellen’s love of community made it possible to be a part of the coordination of the Bicentennial Celebration. Her life revolved around family and friends and this list is extensive.
Ellen is survived by her children Lisa Provost and her husband John of Grand Isle, Darci Deo and Brenda Gomez of Essex, Anthony Deo and his fiancé Maya Rai of Burlington and foster daughter Sheri Sourdiff Bates and family of New Hampshire. By her grandchildren Shaun Provost and his wife Kristin and their children Logan and Olivia; Eric Provost and his son Montgomery; Tim Provost; Sadie Deo Gomez and Jenna Deo. Ellen was one of 13 brothers and sisters. Surviving are Dick Lawrence and his wife Cookie, Michael Lawrence, Mark Lawrence and his wife Vicky, Peter Lawrence, Mary Lawrence, her sister-in-law’s Sue Lawrence, Birgit Lawrence, Liz Lawrence and by many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Gary Lawrence, twins Jim and Joe Lawrence, sister Linda Prouty, brothers John Lawrence, Ed Lawrence and Tom Lawrence.
In following Ellen’s wishes, her body was donated to UVM for medical research. There will be no services at this time.
The family wishes to express their greatest gratitude to UVM Home Health and Hospice without their support we would not have been able to fulfill her desire to remain home. We are forever grateful for this service.
