Gwendolyn Cameron

Obituary of Gwendolyn Alice Cameron

Gwendolyn Alice Cameron, 80, of Grand Isle passed peacefully Saturday, March 31, 2018 after a courageously fought battle with lung cancer.  Gwen was born November 30, 1937, the daughter of the late George and Dora Caswell.  On April 14, 1954, Gwen married Charles Cameron who predeceased her on April 23, 2010.  Together they raised five children and ran the family farm.

Gwen was an early volunteer for the Grand Isle Rescue Squad.  In 1982 she began Nursing School at the University of Vermont, graduating in 1986.  Gwen was a nurse at the hospital in Burlington until she retired last Fall.  Gwen loved to cook, especially desserts and took over the role of donut maker when her mother passed away.

Gwen enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.  She and her husband bought an RV and travelled the country, spending winters in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida.  After Charlie passed, Gwen took charge of the RV and continued touring with her close friends Beverly Rock and Linda Paradee.

Gwen leaves her children, Dawn Cameron and companion Larry Ormsby of Naples, FL; Michael Cameron and Kiddo of Grand Isle; Patrick Cameron and wife Janice of San Diego, CA; George Cameron and wife Maria of Grand Isle; Jay Cameron and fiancé Nathalie Walker of Ledgewood, NJ.  Gwen also leaves ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, her beloved cat Callie, her sisters Janice Arnold of Grand Isle and Jackie Dewyea of the Villages, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Gwen’s life will begin with visiting hours at Minor Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 3-7pm.  Funeral services will be held at the Grand Isle Methodist Church, Hyde Road on Thursday April 5, 2018 at 11am.

Gwen told her friends and family to bring her flowers while she was alive and able to enjoy them.  Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Grand Isle Rescue or the McClure Miller VNA Respite House.
