Obituary of Elinor Bertha "Polly" McBride

South Hero - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Elinor Bertha (Allen) “Polly “ McBride, on Wednesday February 21, 2018. 

Polly was born February 20, 1918 the daughter of Ray Reuben Allen and Hazel (Robinson) Allen, in South Hero, VT.

She grew up on the Allenholm Farm, graduated from Northfield School for Girls, Mary Fletcher School of Nursing, received her Master’s degree from Columbia University and pursued a career in nursing as an RN.

Polly married Charlie McBride on January 18, 1947.

She was a member of the South Hero Congregational Church.

Polly is survived by her daughter Gertrude “Trudy” Elinor McBride Otis (Anthony) of Montpelier VT and son Charles Arthur “Art” McBride (Katherine Myers) of Portland OR, by her grandchildren Janell Otis Niebuhr (Colin), Brandon Allen Otis (Nicole), Kellye McBride. Great grandchildren Martin William Niebuhr and Scarlett Ann Niebuhr and her brother Ray Wallace Allen. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Polly was predeceased by her husband Charles Archibald McBride on April 8, 1984, and her sisters Lura Carr, Margaret Hoag, Mary Halligan, Lois Buermann.

South Hero was always Home, even after moving to Gazebo Assisted Living. Special thanks to the caring staff and to all her bridge friends who kept her going.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday March 18, at 2pm in the South Hero Congregational Church on South Street.
