V. Michael Duffy II

Obituary of V. Michael Duffy II

V. Michael Duffy, II, born June 20, 1976, known as Mike or Mikey by friends and family, died at home Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the loving arms of his wife following a courageous struggle with cancer.

Mike was a selfless Vermonter who would drop anything to help friends or family in need. He loved his family, the land, cows, and every piece of operational or broken equipment because if it didn’t work, he would fix it.  If the parts he needed no longer existed, he would make them from scratch. He had a special love for Farmall tractors instilled by his grandfather, father and many uncles and cousins. Mike always loved working on the family’s farm. He spent the last 20 years working at Lamell Lumber in Essex Center.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Menut Duffy and their children, Ciara and Rollin; by his mother, Jean Anne Branch; his father, V. Michael Duffy and partner, Amy Morway;  his siblings, Sarah Duffy Howrigan, brother in law, Mark Howrigan and their children Andrew, Shanley, Mark and Rowan ; Matthew Duffy and his wife, Deanna (Lyons) Duffy and children, Michael and Sean; Martha Duffy and partner, Tim Aiken and their children, Ethan, Madigan and Duffy Willey and Annabella Aiken; his in-laws, Art and Beth Menut; sister-in-law, Erin Menut and her children, Ava and Aiden; his aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends.

Mike gave of himself in life and will continue this legacy of selflessness by donating his physical body to science so that more might be known about renal cancer and Sarcoma mutations.

The exceptional staff at University of Vermont Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Research Team and the Visiting Nurse Association’s thoughtful and collaborative treatment approach made all the difference to Mike and his families.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Dana-Faber Institute, c/o Dr. Bradley McGregor's Research Team, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 or to a Local Humane Society.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 21st at 11 am in St. Ann Catholic Church, Main Street in Milton.
