I've been living on Sunset Beach since building my house in '99. Pat and Ohmer have always been sweet generous neighbors we don't see enough of. When Deb and I were married Ohmer put on his 'Justice of the Peace' robe and performed the formalities, then the four of us had a nice dinner at their place.
A number of years ago an ash tree that had started growing during the Civil War came down near the brown camp. The tree was so big that I thought we might have to hire the professionals and expressed as much to Ohmer, to which he shrugged and said 'we'll see'. Before long it seamed that everyone in the neighborhood showed up and either brought a chainsaw or dragged the cut limbs to help in the cleanup. All it took was for people to see Ohmer starting on this project and then like followers of the pied piper, they jumped in to help. We didn't finish for a few weeks, and by the end it was only a couple of us, but the progress made in the first day gave us the will to chip away at it. I'll just alway remember the way Ohmer simply got out there with some tools and everything else fell into place!
Pat, I've always said 'please call me if you need help with anything like shopping or anything' and I know that your family has been great support, but please remember that I'm just down the hill.
