Obituary of Marjorie Diana Beck
Essex Junction, VT – After a long and happy life, Marjorie Diana (Fitt) Beck, 95, passed away on January 24, 2021 with family by her side. Marge was born January 29, 1925 in CT and spent her youth and young adult life in Kearny, NJ. It was there that she met the love of her life, William H. Beck, who predeceased her in 2009.
Marge and Bill were married October 23, 1948. After a time, they settled and raised their family in River Plaza, NJ. Surviving are their four children; Diana P. Broussard and her husband Nicholas of Shady Cove OR; Susan M. Belton and her husband Curtis of Underhill VT; William T. Beck of Anchorage, AK; and Thomas A. Beck of Deltona FL. She also leaves their granddaughter Caitlin Hazelton and her husband Bryant of Underhill, VT. Marge’s extended family included their niece Sharron Davis and family in NJ, with whom they enjoyed a close relationship.
Also predeceasing Marge is her sister, Jessie Mary (Fitt) Gillespie of Kearny NJ. They spent many happy days together growing up and later raising their families.
Marge and Bill were active in their community. They supported and nurtured their children by being involved in their many activities both inside and outside school. They also fulfilled their civic duty volunteering for the River Plaza Hose Company that included both community support and fund-raising efforts.
In addition to raising a family, Marge developed her skills as an Executive Secretary. Her employment path started during WWII for the military and transport aircraft commander at Newark airport, and later for the CEO at Hoffman-LaRoche in Nutley. After raising her children, she returned to work with a start-up automobile leasing company, where she stayed until retiring to Florida in 1978. Not wanting to sit still for very long, she took a position for the Dean of Education at Stetson University in Deland FL.
Marge and Bill thoroughly enjoyed travel and took many trips around the country to visit children and family. They also rekindled relationships with many family members in England, taking several trips around the U.K. and Wales. These trips were a pure joy for them.
Three years ago Marge moved to Maple Ridge Memory Care in Essex Junction, VT. It was there that she lived out her days under careful care. Her children remained deeply involved, with those out of town visiting frequently. Special thanks to the staff there, from whom we learned so much. They trained us kids well! Special thanks also to her son-in-law Curt, who entrenched himself as a volunteer and saw Marge daily. We will be forever grateful to these caring and empathetic people.
Donations in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. For those who wish, online condolences may be made to www.minorfh.com.
