Obituary of Lynn E. Evans

Milton – Lynn E. Evans, 72, died unexpectedly in Milton on August 5, 2020. Lynn was born on February 7, 1948 in Granville, NY, the son of Howard and Dorothy (Lynn) Evans. He graduated Granville, NY high school and then from Hudson Valley Community College and became an Electrician. On August 16, 1969, he married Dawn Smith at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mineville, NY. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict as part of the 13th Signal Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He also served in the Army and Air National Guards in both New York and Vermont. Lynn and Dawn moved to Vermont in 1972. Lynn became a police officer for the Burlington Police Department. He worked for the department for over 25 years, retiring in 1998. After retiring from the police department, he worked in the hardware department of Walmart for over 10 years before becoming fully retired. Lynn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working on model railroads and reading about science and history. He also enjoyed movies and computer gaming and sharing those experiences. He loved being in the great outdoors and enjoyed hiking and fishing. He played the guitar and piano and always had an ear for music. He was a man of many words and good intentions. He had a ready smile and big shoulders to lay your troubles upon. He always put family first and lived a life of kindness, compassion, and generosity. He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Dorothy Evans; his beloved wife Dawn, and grandson Nicholas Evans. He is survived by his daughter Tracy Williams and her husband Eric of Ridgecrest, CA and his son Jason Evans and his wife Audrey of Colchester, VT; grandchildren Layton, Nathan, and Maeghan Williams, and Benjamin and Madeleine Evans; brothers Walter Evans (Correne) of New Haven, CT and Jeffrey Evans of Rockaway, NJ.
