Obituary of Phyllis Ryan Everest

Milton – Phyllis Mae (Ryan) Everest, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 18, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born on December 13, 1924 in St. Albans, the daughter of Ralph and Ella (Shore) Ryan. She graduated from Milton High School Class of 1942 as Class Valedictorian. On June 20, 1944, she married the love of her life, Herb Everest. They settled on the Everest family farm and she continued to work at her family owned business, Ryan’s Market. Phyllis later worked as a postal clerk and substitute carrier at the Milton Post Office, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed sugaring, deer hunting, car racing, riding her 4 wheeler and she especially enjoyed many rides to Everest Beach nightly on the golf cart. Phyllis enjoyed working with Herb in the fall of the year, as she loved driving the truck for Herb while he was chopping corn. She was a loyal lifelong Democrat. She was proud to be at the victory party for Phil Hoff, when a piano was rolled out onto So. Prospect St. at his home, in celebration of his election as Vermont’s 1st Democratic Governor in Vermont in 100 years. Phyllis is survived by her two loving daughters Amy Morway and her partner Mike Duffy, and Laurie Scott all of Milton, and by her sister Mary Barrett of Queensbury, NY. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren Beth Morway, Kyle Morway and his wife Jill, Kevin Morway and his wife Dominique, and Alicia and Jason Scott, all of Milton. She also leaves her great grandchildren Alyssa Morway, Hayley Wilson, Christina Wilson, Jackson, Anthony and Mason and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Herb in 1997,her brother Duane Ryan, sister Allison Smith, sisters-in-law Betty Sweeney and Barb Ryan, brothers-in-law Millard Smith, Edward Barrett, Robert Everest, sons-in-law Hubert “Zip” Morway and Rick Scott, and her nephew Brad Ryan. For those who wish, memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to either the VNA Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT., 05446, the Milton Community Center Food Shelf, P.O. Box 619, Milton, VT 05468 or to the Milton Historical Society, 13 School Street, Milton, VT 05468. The Everest family would like to extend a special thanks to VNA Hospice team, Betsey and Melinda and Dr. Marie Sandoval for their excellent compassion and caring. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016, from 10 am until 7 pm, at her home on 3 Beach Rd in Milton. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday May 23rd at 11 am in the United Church of Milton, with burial following in the Milton Village Cemetery.
