Tim was one of the best mechanics in the business. He was also a reliable employee during our years in which I had the honor of working with him. He sold me my first and to date only Harley which I still enjoy. Once Tim sold me the bike he had to tell me that it was a girls motorcycle because they bought it originally for his wife, of course he said that with a grin on his face. I agree that anyone who really got to know Tim was lucky to have done so. My sincere condolences and best wishes for his family.

My condolences to the family. Thoughts and prayers for the family during this difficult time. I grew up next door to Tim and the family, and will never forget all the good times. We had a lot of good times back in the day. I remember getting rides to High School in Tim's Gremlin, fixing the track on the chaparral snowmobile with leather lacing....so many fond memories. My Mom Cecile, and the Plankey family send our thoughts and prayers. RIP Tim.

I was an English Teacher at CTE when I first brought my old, crappy, Hyundai into Tim. Right away we connected over the CTE students he would take under his wing at his shop. He, like me believed in these kids and gave them many chances to experience the esteem that goes along with a job well done. He overlooked how different we seemed on the outside and treated me like a friend. Over the last seven years or so we discovered more about each other and he always took the time to pause what he was doing to say hello. Tim shared with me stories of his kids—how proud he was of them. Harley shares her alma mater with my husband! I was moved by what he did to support them, from driving a horse trailer across country for his daughter or helping his son set up in Colorado, he seemed to strive to elevate their opportunities and life experience. His "rough exterior" is referenced in his obituary but his heart was so huge that I didn't really notice that. He was a generous man. I am deeply saddened by his death and my heart goes out to his family.

I’ll try this again as I guess it didn’t work the first time. Tim would laugh about that. When I signed on to be Fire Chief for the City of South Burlington I had never met Tim before. I was told by the fire staff, “wait until you meet Tim, he’s our mechanic”. It wasn’t too long and I did meet him and he was just as advertised a little gruff on the exterior. Little did I know just what a great person he was or how good of friends we would become. To say nothing about what a good mechanic he was, there was nothing he could not do and there was nothing he could not fix. The last letter I wrote about Tim was to the City Manager telling him that the city was not paying Tim enough and that he needed to figure out a way to pay him more. He literally saved the city “hundreds of thousands of dollars” over the years. I sent Tim to Florida with one of our Captains to evaluate a used ambulance to buy (which we did), and I took Tim to Wisconsin to do final inspection on a pair of new fire engines. While us fire types were going gaga over the new trucks Tim was on a creeper underneath making a list of problems he found. By the time we got back from lunch there were 5 engineers in white coats to discuss Tim’s finding with him. By the time they were through, this multinational corporation had issued a nationwide recall of similar trucks to correct the problems Tim had found. I only got to meet Tim’s wife once and I never did meet his kids, but I knew all about them because Tim had told me everything about horses, boarding them, dirt bikes, racing, and his daughter in engineering school, he was so proud of all of them. Every time you connected with Tim it didn’t matter how long it had been since you saw him you just picked up where you left off the last time. I have had a lump in the pit of my stomach since I learned that Tim had left us. I loved hearing that deep voice on the phone saying “Hi Chief”. The world is a different place lately but I never imagined a world without Tim, he was just one of those solid people who were the “constants” that you could always count on. The world will never be the same without Tim, they don’t make them like that anymore. We are all better people having known Tim Heath. Our love and prayers to his family.

Tim Heath, my beloved brother my heart is so heavy with sadness. I can't believe you have physically left our world. You were so full of life, always ready with a joke, story, helping hand and yes, attitude! I will miss you forever. I know you are standing watch with mom. Love you always. RIP

Although I didn't personally know Tim, he was a longtime friend of my father in law (Jim Hogan) and my late husband (James Hogan). I'm sure both Jim and James were saddened to see him arrive on the other side but are all enjoying a good story and laugh wherever they may be. I hope all the happy memories of Tim bring you some comfort during this really hard time.

Tim!!! With my most heartfelt respect for you, and hoping not to offend all others who read this... "WTF? No!" We met each other through your brother, because, well as I often told you, you were the mechanic I never became. You knew your shit! More though, you were a good guy. The thing is, while I was an American History teacher and older, the more we talked the more it seemed we shared similar values. You truly treated others as they treated you and we respected and liked each other.
That part that someone wrote about you really hit home with me, "if you looked past the rough exterior you would have been so very lucky. He was a man who would do absolutely anything for friends, family and often for people he hardly knew. He built his business Old Fort Auto based on being honest and treating people the best he could. He was proud of his work, proud of his children and supported them in all their endeavors."
Well Tim, I consider myself one of those "very lucky" people. And I will always think of us as friends. I'm gonna sit down, remember the time when you bailed me out and fixed my camper brakes, so I could get to my bluegrass festival on time. Then I'm gonna pick up my guitar, think of you and play my best bluegrass version of 'I Know You Rider" in your honor.
My deepest and most sincere sympathies go out to your family and other friends. Fare thee well.

I am heartbroken. When I heard I just couldn’t believe it. Timmy was such a wonderful human being ( but don’t cross him). From way back in Champlain Farm times-pulling up in a truck or on his bike in the summer-large coffee and a pack of smokes-to fixing our vehicles-going that extra step. When I would go pick up my car-we would chat-always so proud of his family-he loved you all so much-and to me - he was a shining light-and when I would see him and he would smile-he would indeed light up a room! There will be a big hole in all of us who loved him-know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Lynn, Trevor and Trevor II Conant.

Suzanne, Michael, Tom & Harley - I know words are not enough but I do know how much it means to hear from people knowing how Tim made a difference and who are ready to support the family. I relied on Tim's dependability with my car and other mechanical advice. He said what he meant. He gave a hand wherever he could. Every time I asked about the family, he shared stories about each of you. For now, I have you in my thoughts and prayers with hopes that I will be able to see you in person sometime soon.
