Obituary of Mary McCarty Somerville

Colchester – Mary McCarty Somerville, 74, died peacefully on Wednesday September 14, 2016 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Burlington on January 3, 1942, the daughter of William and Mary( Greaney ) McCarty. She married Richard “Slim” Somerville on March 12th, 1977 in South Burlington. Mary raised her family then returned to nursing, where she worked at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont for many years. Most near and dear to Mary’s heart was helping others, whether through nursing, or helping hundreds of her AA family over the past 41 years, and her love for her children and grandchildren who were precious to her. She was a life-long, die hard Red Sox fan and loved to watch the games with her family. She is survived by her children JoAnne Paquette of Reading, PA., Joseph “Joe” Paquette of Colchester, Mary Elizabeth Paquette of Essex, Paul Somerville and his wife Lori of Milton, Sara Somerville- Aiken and her husband Tony of Colchester, Carrie Bendickson of Barre and Steven Somerville and his wife Sarah of Barre, by 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who are all an important part of her daily life. Mary was predeceased by her brothers William and Patrick, her husband Richard, her daughter Anne Marie Paquette, son Ricky Somerville and daughter Annette Taylor. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to The Jimmy Fund www.jimmyfund.org/gift. A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Monday, Sept. 26th, 2016 at 7:05 pm at Cornerstone Community Church in Milton with a reception to follow.
