So sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Jerry at S.D. Ireland from 1987 to 2006. Jerry could run any kind of truck, just about any piece equipment the company had. You could always count on Jerry to jump in where ever he was needed. You count on Jerry to get the jump done even if he had to figure out by himself. They just don't make men like that any more it seems. Everyone who knew Jerry feels the loss. RIP Jerry!

Linda, so sorry for the loss of your husband. He was a great guy for the time I knew him. He was strong minded and persevered dealing with his Parkinson's. I remember him sawing down those trees at Terry & Hope's place with his chain saw and his dog. Jerry is in a good place now.

Gerald Bates senior. Married my mother in 1980. And his son Jerry Bates Jr became my brother. He was the kindest man. A fun man. He was gentle and tough all rolled into one. He suffered with Parkinson’s but he never lost his dignity. I love you Jerry and you Linda. Now God holds you Jerry. And long last your mother has a place for you. And your dad is telling you jokes. Rest In Peace. We love you, Jerry

Gerry was best man at our wedding 46 years ago... like a brother to Bill. He bought a pickup right before the wedding and said he would never get rid of it, connecting it to whether our marriage would survive. He eventually DID get rid of it...17 years later but not before profusely apologizing for doing so, concerned that it was bad luck for our marriage. It wasn't.
You will always be in our hearts Gerry.... always.

I am so sad about the loss of your husband, your brother, your Dad and your step dad. He was a good man, stubborn, confident. He never let this disease, stop him from doing the things he needed to do. A wonderful father, a loyal employee and loyal friend to many. May your hearts heal, with memories of wonderful times. And when you feel like crying, think of times where you laughed. Love to all, Linda and Bill
