Obituary of Phyllis Claire Dumas

Colchester – Phyllis C. Dumas, 86, died peacefully on Friday September 20, 2019 at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington.

Phyllis was born in Burlington on April 7, 1933, the daughter of Clifford and Beatrice (Clairmont) LaBelle.

Phyllis will be remembered by her family for living her life just as the lyric of one of her favorite songs by Frank Sinatra says: “I did it my way”, and she did, right to the end.  Phyllis was not a “sappy” person, but she was real and although she may not have said it very often, she loved her family and showed it in the ways she knew how.  She had worked as a teacher’s aide for the Colchester School system for many years and the students loved her and she loved her job.  All her life, it was not uncommon for her to be basking in the sun, and sometimes even on a black tar roof with a tin foil blanket and a cocktail with no ice.

Phyllis is survived by her children Floyd Pike Jr. of Colchester, Julie Lyman and her husband Paul of Essex Junction, Christopher Pike of Burlington and John Dumas and his wife Stacey of Grand Isle.

Phyllis is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one on the way, her brother Joe Arsenault and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sisters June Bergamo, Faye Miller and Maxine Brooks and her brother Clifford LaBelle Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at  2:30pm at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Colchester to celebrate the life of Phyllis.
