Obituary of John Joseph Rovnak
Johnson – John Joseph Rovnak, 81, died peacefully on Thursday September 19, 2019.
John was born on September 10, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of John Paul and Rose (Boros) Rovnak.
John was married to Caroline Dekarski, who died on April 19, 2015.
John was self-employed for most of his life in the catering business. He and his family owned and operated Rovnak’s Princess Manor in Brooklyn New York from 1957-1991. He was a lifetime member and very active in both the Greenpoint Lion’s Club and the St. Aloysius Club in Greenpoint Brooklyn. John was a dedicated volunteer at the American Red Cross in Burlington Vermont from 2011-2018 where he volunteered most often 20 hours a week in the canteen. He was recognized multiple times as volunteer of the week and received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his donated hours.
John loved his children and grandchildren more than anything and was always so proud of every one of them and all of their accomplishments big and small.
John is survived by his daughters Gloria Palmer of Dorset Vermont, Karyn Lunde and her husband John of Charlotte Vermont, Carolyn Weber and her husband Patrick of Georgia Vermont and by his son John Rovnak and his wife Michelle of Essex Vermont. His grandchildren Kristen and Charlotte Palmer, Henry Lunde, Maggie and Paige Rovnak and Michael, Amelia and Thomas Weber survive John.
In addition to his wife Caroline, his sister Regina Rovnak Cramer predeceased John.
The family of John Rovnak wish to express their sincere gratitude to Tina Mason and family, Judy Hayes of Vermont Comforts of Home, Upper Valley Services, and Stephanie Craig, RN and the Lamoille County Home Health and Hospice for all of their professional care and attention provided to John these past several months.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Ascension Catholic Church in Georgia Vermont.
