Don and Lawrence family,
I'm so sorry. There just aren't any words for such a tragedy as this.
My husband Tony was in the 131st with David and the last time we saw him was on the Lamoille river bridge a few years ago. We stopped to talk to him and It was nice to hear two army buddies recalling memories, telling jokes, laughing and hearing about those that they remember, what everyone was doing and where everyone was. About an hour or more later, we left with smiles on our faces and sore ribs from laughing so hard. I think it was Dave's purpose in life to bring you to tears from laughter.
I hope that you can all lean on each other and find comfort in your memories.
Our deepest condolences,
Penny & Tony Harvey

I had the privilege to work with Dave in the 131st Engineers during our Desert Storm deployment to Saudi, Iraq and Kuwait. He was am amazingly positive and highly skilled Engineer. Dave always did a great job --- and most importantly, he always had a way of making everyone around him smile no matter how tough things were.

So sorry to hear about David, no stunned, actually. The weather was awful, if I recall accurately, but that doesn't make the loss easier to bear. My prayer is that the Lord will bring you his comfort and peace in the midst of your grief. You are not alone! Jesus wrecked every funeral he ever attended, including his own, by refusing to let death have the last word or final say. He holds out hope: "I am the resurrection and the life...." May his hope wash over you today. --Pastor Jeff Cornwell

I am deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of Dave Lawrence. I had worked with him at Copley for almost 15 years. During that time, I had never seen David without a smile or a joke to tell. He was always larger than life, and a presence in the Operating Room. He even had a smile on his face in the middle in the night, when the rest of us were grumpy from being on call. I did have the opportunity to administer anesthesia to him once. When he awoke in the recovery room, he simply asked me to, “show him his feet.” I did not understand...
I lifted his blanket, and he replied... “ You mean that you had me under anesthesia and you didn’t even paint my toenails?” He was convinced that we would play a joke on him. I actually think that he was disappointed that we did not come up with a clever prank to play on him. Dave will always be remembered at Copley and in his community. I truly will miss him. My prayers to his family.

I cannot tell you how sorry I am to hear this horrible news. When I heard the news on Thursday that Dave was dead it hit me like a ton of bricks. We worked together at the hospital. It has been a very somber place for the past two days. I loved Dave as did MANY MANY people he worked with. I hope he knew that. I think that at his very core he had a huge heart of gold. He could be a very very kind man. I will miss him terribly and will think of him often at Copley Hospital.
