Terry was a regular at the community volleyball games in Georgia. We all marveled at his athletic prowess (running across the court, diving for balls, hitting nearly impossible hits) and hoped that we too would be as active when we reached "his age." Terry was enjoyed by everyone who attended the games. We even named a play after him - The Terry - as he was famous for hitting the ball just over the net where no one could get to it....
We will miss him! Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to Jeri.

Heartbroken. Theresa and I are so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. Terry loved family. Each visit or phone call included a report on family life, his boys and his grandchildren...he was so happy that he could be a part of their lives. He loved his community life too, talking about church activities and bowling, and more. He relished his babysitting duties with his grandchildren and would relate their school and sport activities with so much pride talking about their accomplishments. He loved his family; he loved, loved, loved his grandchildren. He loved helping his family, including his parents, his siblings and any cousins in need. In great part, his retirement was about having more family time.
We shared an interest in family stories and genealogy and when I called him last year to report that I “found” a fourth cousin, who was coming to visit, and asked him if he wanted to visit that weekend, he packed his water pic (that I still have, as he left it behind) and he showed up without hesitation. He reached out to another cousin, Bob Snedeker, and together, with our “new” cousin, we had a great weekend! For years, he and I would check in on ancestor facts...a passion both he and I enjoyed.
There's a long story about us...we grew up together. He was one of my first babysitters. I was scared. When my brother broke his arm, my mother said as she rushed off to the hospital that I, about 8 years old, had to stay with Terry and Jack, his brother. Fresh off the reports that Jack had been swinging from tree tops, jumping from the top of a tree to another, at Russell Park (and falling), I said I could stay by myself; I didn't want to get hurt. I went to the Ilion pool with them in the summer and watched their death-defying jumps off the diving boards...I watched in awe and still a bit scared.
When we moved to Richfield, it was Terry and Jack who scaled the two story plus house, replete with cupolas and mansard roofs, and used their acrobatic skills to hang off the roof edges and paint the place...I think they were there the whole summer. They were covered in paint for weeks. It was always Terry and Jack...I was aware of their running awards and was impressed that even in his later life Terry was running almost daily. As a 16 year old, I was in Terry's wedding, visited him and his family in their home in Ilion when they lived there early on, kept in touch as best we could as we raised our families and was blessed that over the recent ten years or so that we had annual visits, he and Chris at times, and then him, here more than Theresa and I there, but always checking in.
Thank goodness that they loved marching bands...it brought us closer when they reported that events were held nearby...they would come down for weekends and we had a great time. Terry and I shared a “different” and perhaps snarky sense of humor; when he was around we found more to laugh about than to complain about. We both felt life was too serious and we didn't need to dig too deep to find something funny in any situation. If you wanted a lift, spend a day with Terry!
My sons loved it when Terry was around. At family events, with camera in hand, Terry would “encourage” my sons to pose for pictures. I could write a book, but will just mention my son Kevin kissing a moose head at a family wedding and me admonishing Terry and my sons at a family funeral, with “no selfies with the recently deceased.” No pictures were taken, but I knew of the possibility.
When he told me he was sick, I prayed for him more than I had for anyone else. We talked about getting together again. He wanted us to meet Jeri, I still hope to have that opportunity. It's hard to lose a close family member, even harder when that cousin is a good friend. I'm sorry that I can't be at his service this Friday...but a family event here keeps me home...he would be the first to say, “Take care of your family first.” I miss him too much already and I'll never forget his great soul. Theresa and I send our heartfelt condolences to all of his family, his sons and their wives, his grandchildren and great-grandchild and all of his loved ones, to Chris for being there for him when it counted, to Jeri for her love and support and anyone else he touched....the world is a sadder place now that he's gone.

Terry was a classmate at Ilion Central. Great guy and what a runner. Running on a cinder track no one could beat Terry in the mile.
I was shocked to hear Terry had lung cancer. Three of us in his class are also fighting lung cancer.

So sorry hearing of his passing. The Maple Place Days of the Orange GTO and all of his standing track records at Ilion High School and the Iroquois League will long stay in my heart. Terry was always a good friend and a great neighbor growing up. Always a Golden Bomber with his Letterman's Sweater.... As proud of his hometown as we were of him !! Last time I saw him was at Christmas time a couple years ago at John's Barber Shop. Rest in peace my friend.......

I was so shocked to here of your loss of Terry. He was not not only a cousin of mine but a friend. We grew up together as kids along with his family. We ran track together but i nor very few others could beat him. He and his brother Jack still hold many of the track records at Ilion High School even after all these years. I remember going to the NY State finals in the mile and watching him race representing Section 3. He lead for over 3 laps but lost in the last 100 yards or so. I remember him in the locker room sitting in the corner after the race crying and beating himself up for coming out too fast. His brother Kenneth was there with me and we told him how proud we were of him too make it to the State Finals.Terry went on with his racing at the college level. He was never a man to give up. I will miss him greatly. Thank God I saw Terry at Paul Cunninghams last year when we spent a few days together. Terry, your children and grand children should be very proud of you. I know I am.
