Leisel, Toryn and the Whitworth family
I am so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. She was such a powerful person in my life and long ago helped me get started professionally, first at the Humanistic Education Center and Bookstore and then at The Partnership Group. She even lent me Leisl's car when I was taking a train 1.5 hours each way to Lansdale! (I am sure Leisel wasn't too fond of that one!)
From your pictures it seems that you all have wonderful memories of your Mom, Grandmom and friend.
Sending hopes that the memories soften the grief and that you can feel her smiling down on you.
Julie

I was so sorry to hear of Mary Martha's death. It was evidently unexpected, and came as a shock. She was a very pleasant and unassuming lady who was very talented, and shared her talents with many. We were in the same Women of UVM Book Club, and had emailed about the Book Discussion just a short few weeks ago. I will miss her participation in the Book Club, and wish to extend my sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Sincerely,
Anne Francis

Mary Martha and I worked together on the Board for the Women of UVM. I was always impressed by her care and consideration towards all the other Board members and all the members in general. She was the first to volunteer help when the workload got to be too much for another member. To me, she seemed to be the kindest woman I've ever met.
Her work as the leader of the Alliance Group was representative of the values with which she lived: promoting women's rights, making sure that women had equal educational opportunities and seeking peace and understanding over conflict each and every time.
It was an honor to have known Mary Martha and we will all miss her deeply.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary Martha’s passing. I took many of her classes. She was so passionate about her desire to empower women, especially young girls who have not yet imagined their greatness. Her classes were always fun. I remember always having Twizzlers! I loved her stories, which generally included her love of her children. I remember her Volvo, which was 100 years old, but she expected would outlive all of us. Mary Martha made a huge impression on so many. My heart will always have a special place for her.

I had the pleasure of being taught by Mary Martha, and took quite a few of her classes. I found her ideas both innovative and inspiring. I couldn't wait to introduce her teaching practices into my own lessons. The teaching profession is truly at a loss without Mary Martha. Please accept my condolences.

Mary Martha was a light in many people’s hearts and taught us the importance of teaching the whole child (their emotional side as well) so many years ago and as I teach my 24th years the district is now in-servicing us in the very same. Their baggage. She called it their IALIC card I believe. She was kind, caring, a fierce fighter for women and funny! She will be missed but a piece of her will carry on in thousands of us that she taught. God Bless!

This past Friday the educational world lost an icon and I lost one of my mentors, Ms. MaryMartha Whitworth. MaryMartha spent 25+ years of her life teaching educators all over Montgomery County about Affective Education. Her courses taught all of the most important things we should know as educators that was never taught in college. Teaching the whole child. A myriad of life lessons that helped me become the teacher I am today. She was a huge influence in my life. So much so, that when she “tried” to retire, I was fortunate, along with some others, to be one of her associates and was able to pay it forward by keeping her message alive and teaching her courses. She was compassionate and loving, she was strong-willed and determined, she was a feminist, a rabble rouser and was truly one of a kind. She passed away peacefully in her sleep and those of us who knew her find comfort in knowing she passed in the manner of what she stood for...Peace. I send thanks to the universe for all that she was and for all that she taught me. Her message is still alive in so many of us. Rest in peace my dear friend as you so richly deserve. Sending love and light to her family during this difficult time.
