Johnny and Suzy - two of the best friends through thick and thin anyone could wish for.
No one will ever know all the hidden and selfless acts of kindness that were done without a word.
Hopefully, at least some will remember and appreciate the sacrifice of one man who often stood alone for the safety and well-being of the people of Grand Isle County.
Eternal rest grant to him,O Lord
And May light perpetual shine upon him.

On June 30,2016,our community lost one of our true gentle souls whose love for our community and this country is only surpassed by his love of his Family and friends. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a dear friend to many of us.His cherubic and infectious smile always had as its partner kind word and joke to make you smile. He served the community with distinction, integrity and deeply rooted principles.
There is an expression of condolence in the Jewish Faith that is special to the Friday night
Service which ushers in our Sabbath whose words I share with his beloved wife Sue ,sons John and Wade,Wade's fiance Sandy, the grandchildren and his brothers ,sisters and extended Family:
" May God comfort you together with all the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem".
Sue know thatwe share your loss and will always be there for you and the Family.

I am a retired state police detective with one contact with him. Back in 1977 I responded to a request for assistance put out by him in Danville. He and a deputy were transporting two prisoners from St. Albans to a jury trial in St. Johnsbury where they had caused a problem resulting in a mistrial. On the way back the two decided to cause a problem in the cruiser. The prisoner in the front seat was a real bad guy with armed robbery and escape convictions among others. This guy got the other prisoner to cause a disturbance in the backs seat and he causing one in the front seat. Sheriff Lawrence had brought the front seat prisoner under control and into a state of semi-consciousness with the assistance of his 5 cell flashlight and then took the prisoner in the back seat had him hog tied and hooked to a telephone pole beside the road when help arrived. He had the situation under control.

I will miss Johnny. He was always there when things were not going well for me. Once when I happened to pull over crying about a situation, he pulled in behind me to let me know that I had helped someone stuck out on the sandbar one snowy night. Another time my horse left me hanging in mid air spooked from a huge farm tractor, and I looked and there was John. Whenever I saw him and his big handlebar mustache I just felt happy. My condolence to his loved ones.

I experienced a glitch and may have sent partial condolences earlier. A lion is dead.
A lion who did more for the county than anyone I know. I had the honor of insuring the county in the last years of John's tenure. We fixed some things that still make me laugh and will be memories of him that will take a long time erasing.
