Our condolences to the Clough family. We only met Dave a few years ago at Groton Pond. I heard of Dave's passing in the new issue of the VAST Snowmobile Vermont. There were kind words of the work Dave did with Vast, by the VAST Vice President Jeff Fay. I worked with Dave the past few summers on bladderwort removal, and we had some fun and interesting chats. This summer I had the opportunity to visit with him in his camp, it was a great time. The obituary is a wonderful tribute to a nice man, wish I got to know him better. We will think of him every time we cruise by the camp. Kevin & Gail McDonnell

To the family of David Clough,
It is with great sadness that I learned of Dave's passing today. I am truly sorry.
I am a neighbor on the West Shore at the Lake. Dave was always a friend, always enjoyed our mutual interest, "the loons" "the lake", and its history.
He always had the best interest of the lake at heart. He and I had planned in the coming spring to work on some issues we were both concerned about regarding the lake.
Loved his smile, his sense of humor. I know that many of us will miss him., God's speed Dave, I know your spirit will live on here at the lake. The loons will sing for you as they have always done, come spring. And at that time I will think of you.
Sincerely,
Darlene Sprague

We Salatinos are so fortunate to have known Dave. He was such a big help to us and my small business with his tractor, his know-how, and jolly camaraderie. He taught me a lot about fixing mechanical things, and about friendship. His family is a beautiful reflection of Dave's love and kindness. Thank you, Cloughs, for sharing your husband and dad with the world. The world is a better place because Dave was in it. Much love, Sarah, Bryan and Galen.

During my ten years with Essex Town Schools, Dave was a member of the Board of Education for most of that time. Not many people serve on a school board for more than twenty years. Dave knew a great deal "in history" and wanted positive outcomes for students, teachers, staff and the community. As director of finance, I received some good advice from Dave from time to time and I appreciated his support and friendly manor. I found the many photos placed on display at the funeral home yesterday by his family to be a memorable and loving tribute to a life well lived.

Dear Eva,Felecia,Petrina,Brian & Cassandra
I had the privilege of meeting & getting to know Dave as a teacher at EMS. His genuine concern about what was best for all kids in the school district was a strong motivator for all he did as a parent & school board member. Anytime I ran into him outside of school there was always a big hug, big smile and a real interest in how life was going. His insight, his words of support and his laughter made any conversation a wonderful moment. During your sad moments may your sweet & funny memories help ease your grief. Look not to focus on his death rather look to celebrate his life.

Dear Eva and family, we have lost a unique friend and cousin in Dave. Our memories of him are of Camp Wildwood over the past 25 years or so. He came to our rescue more than once during vacations when the toilet was leaking or our truck with camper attached blew a gasket and couldn't make it back up the driveway---and the next day we were to head to a family wedding in NH! He was just a call away. He loved taking us around the lake on his "party boat" and giving bits of information on the lake's colorful history and its residents. Our last excursion was in September 2013 on the occasion of my retirement. He joined my family for a champagne cruise around Groton Pond when the surrounding trees were bursting with fall colors! We are grateful for the years he and Eva shared camp with us. It holds a special place in our hearts as does Dave. We are so glad to have gotten to know him and will miss him greatly, and his huge bear hugs! Blessings of comfort and love to you all! Sue (Spencer), Richie, Matthew and Gabe Kellman

Dear Eva and Family, I was saddened to hear of Dave’s death. He was on the school board for 24 of the 41 years I taught in Essex Town and I always marveled at how much he cared and took the time to be informed about the workings of our schools. He was always so appreciative of the time we spent teaching his own children as well as all the students in Essex. He was a kind, generous and empathetic man with a great sense of humor.
I fondly remember how he drove to Waterbury after my home was damaged by Hurricane Irene just to give me a giant bear hug and offer his support. He was the only Board Member to do so and I will never forget it. He was a real Vermonter who reached out to his friends and neighbors whenever they were in need as so many people will attest.
Thank you, Eva, for sharing him with us and may you and the children find comfort in your happy memories of Dave in the days ahead.
Rest In Peace, Dear Dave.
Love,
Kathi Grace

Words cannot begin to express our sympathy to you and your family. Our memories of Dave are to too many to count (over 47 years worth), going back to camping at Groton and in E. Calais with Brad. Always a chuckle and big hug whenever we met, I can still hear that laugh. Our hearts and prayers are going out to you and your beautiful family of which Dave was so very proud. Keep all those wonderful memories close in your heart, he will always be with you. Much love to you all.

I've know Dave for 25 plus years. He was always giving and helping. He was like a brother.
Dave was an accomplished fabricator. At home with a welder, he could make whatever he envisioned. He was proud of his many trailers that he created.
He loved operating that big green tractor, he could make do whatever he wanted.
Dave will be sorely missed. Our little world will not be the same.
Eva, and all of you kids.
Take solace in the many many great memories. From Brigham Hill Road to Groton and beyond. Dave put a little bit of himself on the world.

To Eva and the family: Dave was a very good person and Groton Pond (Lake Groton) camper. I enjoyed watching him fishing and riding in his pontoon boat with those (2) swivel front seats. He would slow down going by our place (#24) to say "hello" and visit briefly. Some years ago on Daves' suggestion, Dean and I stopped over to Rob and Beckys' cabin #8 to take your grandson wakeboarding. Dave was always friendly. His smile was inviting and contagious. The last few years we worked together on the bladderwort (B). He worked hard and played a major part with his concern and thoughts. He helped a lot removing the B with his know how and equipment. Then he knew how and where to transport the B to those who wanted it. It was my pleasure to have known and been friendly with him. This is from the summer of 2018. The boys wanted to go skiing and I wanted to take them. Dave missed his nap that day, as we convinced him to come along. He had a great time. We skied in Mallett's Bay and took the boys to Thayer Beach. Everyone had a wonderful time.

My thoughts are from meeting David briefly during a time of family loss and from conversations with his daughter, Petrina about her father and family.
I saw and heard in David a tender heart and quick quiet sense of humor. When I met him he was every bit a gentleman and courteous and made me welcomed and feel a valuable part of the then current circumstances. Every family has good and not so good times. In times of family distress splintering and breaking apart of the core is seen far too often in our society. I believe the strength of the Clough family can be attributed to David as the dad and husband and from what I saw and understood as his dedication to his wife, Eva, and to her strength and to his family. There is great honor in that.
David accomplished much in his career, that is his daughter’s very proud perspective of her dad. My desire for the Clough family is that you are surrounded with the comfort, strength, love and peace from above. Prayers are for you to express your loss in the way that will personally help you the most. Be patient with yourselves. This is hard work, this grieving. It is long work. I believe David, if he could now speak, would say something to make you chuckle a bit, somehow, and would want you to remember him in a way to bring you strength and peace in your hearts at this time.
Know that many people care and also love you, for I certainly do.
