Obituary of Jayne Dettmore Methot

Jayne Dettmore Methot passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.

Jayne was 96 years old.

Jayne was born on May 3rd, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre, PA., the daughter of William and Mary (Flasser) Dettmore.

She graduated from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre and Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA., where she earned a degree in Secretarial Studies.

During WWII, Jayne worked in Washington DC for The Department of the Navy as a Stenographer.  While working in Washington she met and later married Robert J. Methot of Groveton, NH.  Robert served in the US Army and was stationed in the Philippines.  They married on May 6, 1944 and honeymooned at the Hotel Sterling in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  From 1945 until 1968, Robert “Bob” and Jayne lived in Kingston and Shavertown, PA.  In 1968 they moved to Vermont and resided in South Burlington.  Jayne was a dedicated home maker and loving mother.  Her husband Bob was an architect with Freeman French Freeman – Pizzagalli Construction Company and Wiemann Lamphere Architects.  They had six children. 

Jayne is survived by her children Rick Methot of Titusville, NJ, David Methot of Hinesburg, VT ,  Jayne Methot-Walker of Grand Isle, VT and Robert J. Methot Jr. of Shelburne, VT.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. Methot, who passed away on September 5, 2015, two of their children Charles Methot in 1956 and Robin Methot in 1972, her sister Claire Dettmore Chollak as well as her parents and her grandson Nick Methot in 2003.

Jayne had five surviving grandchildren, Brian Methot of Lilburn, GA., Kathleen Gribbin of Voorhees, NJ, Nathan Methot of Monkton, VT, Claire Walker of Portland, OR., and Lucy Walker of NYNY.  And by three Great Grandchildren, Colin Methot, and Delaney and Makenna Gribbin.

Jayne and Bob spent 71 years together while raising a beautiful family.  Each summer they vacationed on the Coast of Maine as well as seasonal rentals on Lake Iroquois in Hinesburg where the family enjoyed fishing and boating.

Jayne loved her outdoor gardening, Sunday countryside drives after church, theater, music and the solitude of a good book.  She and Bob were avid readers leaving a large library of over 300 hardbound books to The Fletcher Free Library.

They were both long standing members of Saint John Vianney Church in South Burlington.

A Graveside service will be held on May 10, 2019 at 10 am. at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington.
