Obituary of Fitch Warren Baxter

Swanton – Fitch W. Baxter, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the UVM Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 8, 1922, in Milton, the son of the late Ethan and Margie Fitch Baxter. Fitch honorably served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He participated in the D-Day Invasion of France and served under General George Patton advancing into Germany. He was employed by the Central Vermont Railway & Canadian National as a Bridge & Building Supervisor, retiring after 35 years of service. Fitch enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting, but his greatest passion was time spent with his family. On September 13, 1952, Fitch married Christobel Elaine Latham in Milton. He is survived by his brother, Ethan Baxter Jr., of Maine, his children Patricia Klein of Virginia & son-in-law Dave Klein of San Diego, CA, John Baxter & his wife Anne of Fairfield, Maureen DeWorken & her husband David of Rochester, NH, Sarah Longley & her husband Darryl of Milton, and Amy Ngo & her husband Quang of San Diego, CA, his daughter-in-law Jane Baxter of Ferrisburgh, his grandchildren Tonia, Beau, Shannon, Ian, Ryan, Ethan, Isaac, Dillon, Amanda and Adam, his step-grandchildren, Carol Williams and Derek White, and his great-grandchildren James, Matthew, Serenity and Michael as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Christobel, his sons, Michael and infant son, Ethan, and his infant daughter, Annette. He was predeceased by his brothers; Earl, Clinton, and Calvin, and his sisters, Bernice and Norma. Fitch’s family would like to extend special thanks to the Doctors and staff at the University of Vermont Medical Center for the excellent care and support given during Fitch’s stay. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 4-7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Church, Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.
