Obituary of Paul Effel
Grand Isle – Paul Effel, 68, died unexpectedly on August 16, 2018.
Paul was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 3, 1950, the son of Harry “Pete” Effel and Jean (Mentin) Effel.
Paul graduated from the University of Vermont in 1973, majoring in Wildlife Management. Paul had a 30-year career in building supplies sales at Agway, Rivco, and Norandex. He drove trucks for Ryder and Truckmovers in his semi-retirement. He enjoyed road trips, boating, fishing, camping, and gardening.
On November 20, 1971, Paul met the love of his life, Linda Petry, at McDonald’s Restaurant in South Burlington, VT. Paul was dining in as Linda finished her shift and walked outside to hitchhike for a ride back to her dormitory at Trinity College. Paul abandoned his food, ran to his car, drove around to the front of the restaurant, and picked her up. They had drinks later that night in Downtown Burlington after their failed attempt to sneak into a Procol Harum concert at Memorial Auditorium. They were married on January 19, 1974, at the Lincoln Inn in Essex Junction, VT.
In addition to his loving wife, Linda, he is survived by his son Sean Effel and his wife Susan Brown of Somerville, MA, his daughter Rebecca Effel of Santa Fe, NM, his grandson Samuel Effel, his stepmother Ester Effel and his stepbrother Lonny Peretz, both of FL, as well as his sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Jean.
A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held on August 30 at The Grand Isle Lake House, in Grand Isle, VT, from 2-4 PM.
