Obituary of Georgia Metria Pendleton
Georgia Metria Pendleton née Lopez, age 84, died at her home in
Fairfax, Vermont, on Saturday afternoon, June 2, 2018, after a
valiant struggle against lung cancer. Georgia was born on March 14, 1934,
the daughter of Frank Lopez of Humacao, Puerto Rico, and Mildred Godette
(Roscoe) of Charlotte, Vermont. Raised in New York City, she married Bruce
Garniss Pendleton with whom she was happily married for 65 years. While
living in New York City, the Pendletons raised four daughters. After graduating
from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1977, Georgia became a
preschool educator, first, at the Lexington School for the Deaf, and later, at
Our Saviour Lutheran School. The Pendletons retired to Vermont where Georgia
became a faithful member of the Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington.
Since 2010, Georgia loved working as a guide for the Shelbourne Museum. She was an
avid reader who loved family gatherings as well as walking on the beach.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Bruce Pendleton of Fairfax, Vermont; one sister,
Susan O’Malley of Randolph, Vermont; four daughters: Lesley Barker of Cape Girardeau,
Missouri, Chris (David) Rushton of Bethany, Oklahoma, Nancy (Craig) Smith of Bel Air,
Maryland, and Paige (Jefrey) Jensen of Topsfield, Massachusetts; fourteen grand-children and three great-grand-children with one on the way.
Georgia’s life will be celebrated by her family in a private ceremony on Monday, June 11, in Topsfield, Massachusetts.
