Obituary of Mark D. Mossey
FAIRFAX--Mark D. Mossey, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Fairfax, on March 30, 2018, following a long illness.
Mark was born in Burlington, Vt. On October 13, 1958 to the late Irving and Marjorie (Denton) Mossey.
An avid outdoorsman, he spent his entire career working outside. First for his brother Alan Mossey, operating heavy equipment. Although he was proficient on anything he ran, his expertise shined with the excavator, his favorite piece of equipment. Over the many years he worked with Alan, he left his mark on the town of Milton, much of which can be seen, as you drive along Route 7.
In 1995 he took a position with the road crew for the Town of Milton where he spent the next 19 years working many long hours plowing in the winter and becoming the highway supervisor. After being diagnosed with a rare lung disease he tried to continue working wearing oxygen but it soon proved to be too difficult.
Mark loved to hunt & fish with his family. In recent years, when walking in the woods wasn't possible, he managed to get on his four wheeler and go down to the edge of his field to hunt. He always watched for deer to come out in the field, from the dining room window. His excitement was like he was seeing deer for the first time. Every day.
One of his greatest loves was his dogs who he treated like his children. He eventually bred Boxers and had several litters, loving the chaos of having puppies for eight weeks and taking care of them when they're newborns
Even in his decline, he continued to invent ways to improve his situation and make it easier to maneuver, trailing 50+ feet of oxygen tubing. A friend and friendly to everyone he met, he never lost his sense of humor, even in his last days and hours. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Mark is survived by his four children who he loved dearly, two daughters who were by his side 24/7 for the last few weeks, providing the much needed comfort of having them close, Heather Mossey and Darrell Morin of Westford, Vt., Miranda Boucher of Fairfax, Vt and two sons, Brian and Meghan Mossey of Wappingers Falls, NY, Joshua Mossey and fiancée Meredith of Durham, NC, Two granddaughters Eve and Mae Mossey of Wappingers Falls, NY, whom he adored. His four faithful boxers Tasha, Sarge, Anna, and Sophie. And Hyde the cat.
He also leaves his Dad, Edward Cote, sisters Aleta and Winifred Decker, Dawna and Doug Beyor, Debbie and David Wimble, Cheryl Letourneau, Sisters-in-Law Wanda Mossey and Michelle Mossey. And many nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by his brothers Alan Mossey and Irving (Dunny) Mossey, his brother-in-law Christopher Letourneau & nephew Jess Wimble.
