Obituary of Paul E. Stough Jr.

South Hero – Paul E. Stough Jr., 81, died peacefully on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home in Burlington.

Paul was born August 30, 1936 in Greensburg, PA, the son of Paul E. Stough Sr. and Noreen (Horne) Stough.    He attended Penn Technical Institute and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

While attending Penn Tech, he worked full time while raising his family, and graduated with honors. 

Paul worked as an electrical engineer for over 30 years.  He began his career at GE in Syracuse, NY and within a few years moved to Poughkeepsie, NY with IBM.   He transferred to VT in 1965, and retired in 1990, after 27 years of employment.  Following retirement, Paul was a tour guide in Key West and a tour bus driver in VT.  In addition to working his regular jobs, he always had side careers, as a building contractor, plumber, electrician, tavern owner and convenience store/ gas station owner.  Paul was a charter member of the Georgia VT Lions Club, and very active in the Lions for over 25 years, serving as District Governor in VT from 1989-1990.

He married Carolyn Bailey on April 24, 1987 and is survived by Carolyn and five children, Paul Stough III, Debbie, Trish, Dawn, and Kimberly and his grandchildren Cory, Amanda, Brittany, Jessica, Logan, Ella and a grandchild to be born in the fall.  He also is survived by great grandchildren Hunter, Harper and Taylor.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son-in-law Scott Parker and his former wife Janice Whetzel LaRose.

Paul's family would like to thank the staff of the Birchwood Special Care Unit for the loving care they provided Paul over the past three and one-half years.
