Obituary of Edward Willliam Irish, Sr.
Edward W. Irish, Sr. (affectionately known as “Bopa” and “Tini”) passed away at the age of 91 in Burlington, Vermont on Monday, February 5, 2018. Tini was born to Robert and Blanche Irish on April 23, 1926 in Burlington, VT. He was one of nine children. He married Theresa Irish on February 7, 1948 and spent a full 70 years with her and their five children.
Ed retired from IBM after many years as a Project Manager, but he never really retired from work. He operated a plumbing and heating service and spent his whole life as a handyman, working on projects at home and at the family’s camp in Grand Isle. Tini also served in World War II on the U.S.S. Lenawee and then as a Petty Officer in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Repose.
Tini is survived by his wife, Theresa, son Edward (Karen), Thomas (Susanne), Paula, Peter (Laura), Jane (Tom), 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren (with an additional two on the way), sister June, sister-in-law Helen, sister-in-law Anne, many nieces and nephews, including his special niece Nancy. Tini will be remembered for his few but memorable words of wisdom.
His service will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral on Allen Street in Burlington, VT.
