Obituary of Geraldine J. Chalmers
So. Hero – Geraldine J. Chalmers, 85, died peacefully on Friday January 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House.
Geri was born on July 9, 1932 in Randolph the daughter of Roy L. and Hazel D. Johnson. Geri graduated from Montpelier High School, VT in 1949 and went on to achieve a BA in Philosophy from UVM. She met and married her husband of 61 years, Robert in 1956. Together they raised three girls, Lori, Lisa and Kim.
When her children reached their teens, Geri returned to UVM to pursue and achieve an MBA in Sociology which she then applied to private practice in Marriage Counseling. Geri also worked for the Visiting Nurses Association and more recently UVM Medical Center as a transcriptionist.
Geri loved her pets. The Chalmers home was never without a cat or a dog, sometimes 2 or 3 of them at once. She was also an avid reader and influenced her husband, daughters and granddaughter with a love for reading. She loved tending houseplants and gardening outdoors. Beautiful petunias, pansies and her favorite begonias adorned her front porch every summer along with the backyard sprawling squash plantings.
Geri was very fond of camping, boating and over recent years RV’ing the countryside with her husband and usually a cat or two. They had many adventures and would winter in Port Aransas, TX.
In addition to Robert, Geri is survived by her daughters Kim Hunter of So. Hero, Lori Chalmers of Essex Jct. and Lisa Chalmers of Milton, her granddaughter Michelle Lee Hunter and her great granddaughter Cassidy Lynn Ferres.
Mrs. Chalmers is also survived by her sister Martha Langone and her husband Dan of Lebanon, NH.
She was predeceased by her brother Charles B. “Pete” Johnson and by her sister Pauline “Polly” Coop.
