Mr Stinehour was a wonderful teacher and a positive influence for me at school. I ended up getting a BS in Computer Science and have worked in the industry ever since, but my first exposure to computers was in his class. We also had a lot of fun discussing hockey.
Condolences to all his family and friends, but hopefully it is a comfort to know how many lives he touched.

My condolences to the Stinehour/ Hakey family. I am sorry that I was never able to communicate to "Mr. Stinehour" that his teaching and the program that he and his team ran impacted my life and interest in Information Technology. The vocational program he ran was such a great program and taught my generation the skills in Business, Accounting and Data Processing that prepared us for our future. May he rest in peace.

Joyce, The loss of a loved one turns our life upside down. Our world as we knew it has changed and those changes require that we in turn adjust to a new "normal". A strong bond between two loving people won’t be broken even by death.
Look back at the happy memories you two shared. Even though our lives went in different directions after school - we are always there for each other. Reach out if you ever need a friend's shoulder to cry on!

Im so sorry for your loss. Mr. Stienhour, as I knew him, was my favorite teacher. He was also my first softball coach. When I moved to Fairfax 20 years ago and ran into him in the hardware store, it was wonderful catching up with him. The man I knew was so caring and encouraging every time I spoke with him. I am truly sad he has passed. All my sympathy and love to your family.

Norm, as your cousin/sister I will always cherish the memories of us growing up in East River. I remember the games all four of us played in the big backyard that Uncle Robert helped to fence in, you and I walking over to school from Grandmas Willard's house, our family picnics on Neck Road, and trying to convince our classmates that we were cousins, not girl/boyfriend. We lived many miles apart as adults, but we always remained close family in our childhood memories. Joyce, love to you and his children. Marian

Norm was a very special man. I worked for many years at Northwestern Medical Center, where he volunteered with his dogs. It was always such a special treat to have a visit from Norm. Somehow, I think he always had a sense when it was a stressful day, and a few minutes with his soothing voice and one of the kind dogs was in order. I always appreciated his kindness, and that he shared his gifts with all of us at NMC. I'm so sorry to hear that he has passed. Such a kind soul, gone too soon. Jennifer Savage

I had Mr. Stinehour at Essex in the 1960s for a typing class. I wasn't his best student, in fact, was kicked out of his class one day for being a jerk. He was an excellent teacher and I have used what I learned in his class nearly every day for about 50 years. (I can't say that about many classes I have taken!) I am so grateful to have been taught an incredibly useful skill by a gifted man.
My sincere condolences to all of you. We are better people to have shared our lives with Norm.

I am so sorry to read about Mr. Stinehour. He was my favorite teacher at Essex and the one person that inspired and encouraged me to become a teacher. I had often thought about contacting him and had decided to look him up when I got back to Vermont. In May 2018 I will be retiring after 40 years of teaching. He was a wonderfully kind and innovative teacher. My condolences to his family.

I am very saddened to hear of Norm's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.
Norm was *the* most influential teacher I had in the public school system. Prior to taking his classes, I was headed for a career in science, but his classes ignited a spark and Norm fanned the flame of passion for computers. He bent the rules to allow me to repeat his "Advanced" class several times, and he hired me -- then a socially awkward kid -- to work for him on contract projects. The boost that gave me in confidence and knowing that I had a bright future in "the real world" was priceless.
I will always remember Norm's good nature and "gentle assertiveness", and I will always be grateful for the few years that our paths crossed.
Rest in peace, Norm.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Norman's family. For right now, there's no detour around grief, no shortcut through mourning. However, 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, "... power beyond what is normal ", to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry, or that we forget. It means we recover. We recover because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28 which says, "... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out ". Jesus was referring to the resurrection. That is our amazing hope! The Bible likens our hope to an anchor. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us and keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, "... the God of all comfort ". One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort be your comfort now, during this time of sorrow. For the Bible's answers to life's big questions please visit JW.org.

To Norm's family I am very sorry for your loss. Norm was my neighbor when he owned the home next to me in Williston Village. I could not have asked for a more wonderful neighbor. I loved seeing him renovate this home which was built in 1861. I also fondly remember his pups having a great time playing with my two pups. He taught me to say the word Wiemaraner. I am glad to hear that he continued to leave his carpentry skills on other homes and that he continued to share the love of his dogs with others. I have always called the house he renovated the Norm Stinehour house. He was a dedicated teacher and caring friend.

I do not remember a lot about Norman but his children were in my early memories of my childhood! Especially his daughter Karen when they would visit Winsted, CT to see their grandparents. I know his children loved him very much and just reading about him he seemed like an incredible man. His children are wonderful people so I am sure he played a huge roll in that aspect of their lives. I am so sorry for their loss. To his wife Joyce I am sorry he was taken so suddenly from your life. I am praying for all of you. He will always be looking down on all of you and watching over you. Love to each and everyone of you! Prayers for everyone! Love Nancy Fox Schaller

To Norm's Family - As I read of the passing of such a caring, wonderful man, it brought back many memories. Had it not been for Norm, I don't think I could have conquered the new world of computers many years ago. He convinced me that I had nothing to worry about -- it was 'just another way of using a pencil and file folder'. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to learn from the very best. Know that he touched our hearts in a special way and has been the topic of many special conversations in our office over the years.

Mark, Karen, Craig & Bryan - I have so many fond memories of your dad. Being his neighbor, babysitter for the 4 of you and one of his students. He made our neighborhood one of the best there was with the skating rink in your back yard and teaching kids how to skate and play hockey. I remember seeing him in the summer time practicing with his bow and arrow in the back yard. I was honored to have him as a teacher at Essex High School for Accounting and Data Processing class. He was an excellent teacher and I learned so much. He was a wonderful man and he will be missed by many, many people. He has joined the Lamell group up above and I can only imagine the wild times going on. Hold on to the many memories of your dad. One day, you will all be together again. Joyce and all of Norm's Family,
It's not easy to write an obituary that makes the reader smile, but this one had that effect on me. Such a well-lived life of such a good and accomplished man, and those who know him realize you barely scratched the surface. Please accept my condolences, and know that I didn't cheer against the Yankees last night as a one-time show of respect. Also, I will say a prayer in Norm's name on Saturday as I wet a line in the Colorado Rockies. He will surely be remembered fondly by many many people.

I am so glad I got to see my Uncle Norman after many years earlier this spring. I was able to tell him that even though he was not, I always considered him my godfather because I was closer to him than my actual godfather. He didn't know that. I will always remember visiting when I was younger and going out to the ice rink or to the cabin. I am pretty sure he taught me how to use a bow and arrow.
My family and I are so very sorry for your loss. Although I don't think you can ever fully prepare for the death of a spouse or parent, it must be especially difficult to lose someone so unexpectedly. Please know that my prayers are with each and every one of you. I love you all.
I'm sure he's hunting or fishing or helping someone build something up in Heaven.
God Bless you all.
