Obituary of George Raleigh Way
Milton – George Raleigh Way, 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington.
George was born on April 4, 1921 in North Hero, the son of Wyman and Cora ( Blair ) Way.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Seventy one years ago, on October 14, 1944, he married Victorine Gonyea in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in So. Hero.
George was self-employed as a carpenter all of his life. He was a true jack of all trades. Following retirement, he enjoyed bee keeping.
He is survived by his daughters Mary Way of Williston, Diane Bushey and her husband Roger of Williston, Nancy Way of Milton and Caroline Lemons and her husband Bob of Milton. By his grandchildren George S. Way and his wife Lisa, Jennifer Howard and her husband Timothy, Michelle Howard and her fiancé Adam Norton and Ashley Bushey, his great grandchildren Kelsey Howard and Leah Norton and by several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Victorine in 2011 and his son George T. Way and his wife Kathy.
Memorials in George’s memory may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, VT Chapter, 300 Cornerstone Dr., Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495 or to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, Inc., 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4-7pm in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on May 9th, 2016 at 10 am with interment, with full military honors, following in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery.
