Obituary of Richard B. Smith

St. Albans Bay,

Richard B. Smith (Papper), 87 of St. Albans, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at his home on Church Road after a hard fought battle with Lung Cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born February 15, 1930 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania the son of the late Charles F. and Florence Sechrist Smith. He had driven tractor trailer over the road before becoming owner/operator of his milk hauling business.

Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his family, telling stories, joking and laughing. He loved gardening and his flowers, travelling and riding in his camper. He was known for his Christmas lights display, cooking, tinkering in his garage, taking care of his loyal companion dog, Chili, watching racing, painting and enjoying holidays.  He was liked by everyone that he crossed paths with. Richard had served four years with the US Army during the Korean conflict.

He was married to the love of his life, Rita Mary Richard to whom he shared 65 years together with.

He is survived by his wife Rita of St. Albans and their children, Debbie Boyer and her husband, Mickey of Florida, Mary Smith and friend, Neil Barrette of Rouses Point, NY, Carol Smith and partner, Randy Reynolds of Essex Junction, Sharon Pion and husband, Joe of St. Albans and June Dragon and husband, Brent of Milton; Nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; His brother, Charles Smith of Washington state and his sister, June Fink of Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by several brothers.

As per Richard’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
