Dear Karlo and Matti,
I was saddened to hear of Carolyn's untimely death. Whenever we met, I was always impressed by her positive energy and zest for life. Her love for each of you was obvious. Carolyn was one of those people who helped restore one's faith in humanity and the belief that one individual can make a difference. I have no words of comfort but I share in your sadness.

Dear Karlo and Family,
My deepest sadness and warmest feelings and memories are with you all today. Carolyn was one of my dearest friends in Greenport and we shared some key life experiences together--some of my best Greenport memories. I am so grateful that we continued to keep in touch and to connect through the years in deeply meaningful ways to both of us. And the connections were made even more meaningful because of her marriage to dear Karlo, another key high school friend, who also contributed in vital ways to my Greenport experiences and beyond. In the most recent years, Because I was a member of both Carolyn's and Karlo's High School Graduating classes, I am totally loved how we were able to attend both Carolyn's and Karlo's Greenport class reunions together. And I am especially grateful that we had our special time staying together in my 101 year old father's summer apartment at the Sound View Inn, when he wasn't there!! So we had time to visit, reminisce, and cherish our connections from our early years. Carolyn, was truly amazing at this last visit, still full of love, caring and hope. And so were you, Karlo.
To all of you being together and supporting each other at this most sad time,
Diane

I have know Caroline since I can remember. My sister Jean and I grew up across the street from the Adams family in Greenport. At one time she tried to teach me piano. She was endlessly patient with me. I remember her as always having a smile on her face, and being sweet and kind. My sister just saw her at the class reunion last year, so it was quiet a shock to hear of her death since we did not know she was sick. My condolences go out to Karlo and their children, and Johnny and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Very sincerely. Mary Arthur

Dear Karlo and Family,
My deepest condolences on Carolyn's passing. I feel very lucky to have worked with Carolyn during my senior year at Milton High School as I considered my own career in education. Carolyn welcomed me into her classroom each week and modeled for me what a passionate and patient educator looked like. She radiated joy, optimism, and a deep caring for all her students. She was truly a role model for so many of Milton's youth during her career. My time with Mrs. S. cemented education as my chosen vocation - a field I've been working in since I graduated from college.
For Carolyn, I'm sure she saw mentorship as a natural part of her job as an educator. For me, her reassurance and guiding hand made a dramatic impression on my future. I'm not sure she ever will know how many future teachers she impacted by just being herself.
With Sympathy and Gratitude, Tom Stowell, Alexandria, VA

I was introduced to Carolyn and Karlo through a club that no one wants to join. At a time of extreme crisis, I found support from these transplanted metropolitan strangers even when our closest relatives could not. I’m proud to call them friends.
I don’t know much about Carolyn’s background, or her career as a teacher or what made her tick. I do know that you can’t help smile when she enters a room. She had the ability to put you at ease with her welcoming personality and genuineness. I always looked forward to seeing her profile so I could see the latest addition to her formidable earring collection. My sense is that the culmination of her life could be extrapolated from knowing what made her choose each one.
Carolyn is a beacon of hope and no doubt has changed many lives for the better. There has always been a debate within academia whether your genes or your environment dictate one’s outcome. Be it in the classroom, as a wife or a mother, Carolyn has embossed her signature upon our genetic code, guiding it to be expressed as God had intended. Love can change all things, especially epigenetics. I have seen it happen in their own family.
Today we have given Heaven one of our best. We’ll always remember you. It’s time to trade earrings for a set of wings. We’ll miss you.

Dear Karlo and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. We first meet when she had Eric in her class. She always made him feel special; even as an adult. Our paths continued to cross throughout the years with church and other Milton community events. Though our meetings were increasingly sporadic and brief, we could pick right up were we left off. We shared many stories of our families as they grew. She was one of my favorite people, and a model for so many. Her love for life, and compassion for others was so authentic that she sparkled and could light up a whole room. She was well loved, and will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences. Me and my husband lived in Milton nearly 5 years in the early 90's. Karlo and Carolyn were among our dearest welcoming friends. We worshiped God and prayed together. We studied God's word together. We enjoyed each other's company!
I remember a specific time when Carolyn asked me to read a book, which she gave me, to her first grade class.
"Miss Rumphius." A delightful story in which the lady, Miss Rumphius, "made the world a more beautiful place."
Carolyn did just that for me. And for all who knew her.
Now heaven is rejoicing as Carolyn, God's beloved daughter, has entered His presence in that eternal beautiful place.
I can only imagine! I love you Carolyn.
Dear Karlo, with great love my prayers are with you dear friend, and your family. Mona Hearne
