My words are not adequate to express to the sorrow I feel for your loss, Francoise. Your daughter, Laure, was an inspiration to everyone around her. I was so blessed and lucky to have known her beauty when she was with you at the Oakton meetings. Every bit of my heart goes out to you, your family, and her fiancé during this most difficult time.

Such a sad thing when a young person dies. She was such a kind, intelligent, witty person. I will miss her laugh. I went on a couple of church retreats with her and will miss that. My condolences to all her family and friends.

The first time I met Laure when she worked at Champlain Valley Union High School, it was obvious that she was one of "those teachers." She brought energy, urgency, responsibility, fun, and a compelling, motivating attitude. When students worked hard and earned Laure's smile, they knew it was authentic. They worked to please her - which happens in powerful teacher/student relationships. She lit up lives and inspired. She was creative in the room and creative in her profession. She expected to be treated well and always treated others well. I loved when she would say something, give me that look like "I'm going to do something about this" and blitz out of the room to move mountains. What a beautiful, powerful force. She built long-lasting relationships at CVU...and those who are still here are saddened deeply for the family and loved ones and sad for ourselves because she was one of the great ones. We are less with her loss. Please know our prayers are with her and everyone else who admired and loved her.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Laure's family. There's such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies. I'd like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helps me. Prayer is so valuable at this time but it's not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, "... power beyond what is normal ", to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, "... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out ". Jesus was referring to the resurrection, this is our hope. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, "... the God of all comfort ". One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort (Ps. 83:18) be your comfort now during this time of sorrow.

The McAndrew/Clark family of Calais sends our most sincere condolences at the loss of Laure. Our son Sam did not have her as a teacher but had noted to us several times that she was terrific, she taught several of our family members and close friends, and we know she was a strong advocate for students, teachers, and the entire school community. We are so sorry and send our deepest sympathies to the family at this horrendous loss. We send our love and support.

On behalf of our family, and especially my son Andrew Rice (who was a student of Laure's at U-32), I want to express our deep sorrow for your tragic and unexpected loss. Just a few weeks ago, we had parent-teacher conferences for Andrew. Laure stood out that day as a teacher who expressed complete and utter confidence in Andrew's abilities and his potential. She was so warm and compassionate. She told Andrew that she would be watching him and couldn't wait to see what he was up to in 20 years, because she knew that he would be doing amazing things. She also told Andrew that he was a truly nice guy (never making fun of other kids, always being kind to others) and that this quality would help him throughout his life. She boosted his self-confidence that afternoon as he caught a glimpse of himself through her eyes. As a parent, there is no greater gift than a teacher who sees your child's talents and his potential. That day, she gave a gift to Andrew and to me. It sounds like her life was spent that way, sharing her gifts with students, family and friends. She will be a teacher that my son does not forget. God bless you all and we will keep you and Laure in our thoughts and prayers.

Laure's last name is truly fitting and anyone who has crossed paths with her would truly agree. We were incredibly blessed to have her as a teacher, mentor, and friend at U32. All of us who were lucky enough to have known her will never be the same. She brought a certain positivity to any room she entered: always full of life and adventurous stories. She is missed dearly by all of her U32 family. Thoughts and prayers to her family and to her fiancée, as we can't imagine what you are going through.
