Michael Ryan

Obituary of Michael R. Ryan

MICHAEL R. RYAN – ST. ALBANS – Michael R. Ryan, 55, died peacefully on May 14, 2016 at Green Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long illness. Mike was born in Montreal, Quebec, September 23, 1960 the son of Rolande (LeFrancois) Ryan, and the late Charles D. Ryan.

When Mike was five his family moved to Essex Jct., VT where he graduated from Essex High School in 1978. He attended UVM and Champlain College where he earned an Associates Degree in Business Management in 1981. Shortly after graduation he became a member of the Vermont Air Guard where he earned his pilots license and was promoted to Captain. Mike fulfilled his dream of running his own business in 1991 when he purchased LG Printing in St. Albans. In 2005 he began his career as a Customs and Immigration Officer working in Highgate Springs.

Mike’s need for speed was satisfied when he flew the F-4 Phantom with the Air Guard. This also afforded him the opportunity to travel the world and his family enjoyed the stories of his many adventures. Along with this Mike would spend his weekends working on renovating his home and carving out time to spend with his family and friends. He was always willing to drop what he was doing to lend someone a hand. Mike was the type of person who would get along with anyone he came in contact with whether they were a customer, stranger, or friend.

He leaves his wife of 24 years Jane Ryan and his children Brendan and Galen all of St. Albans, VT. He is also survived by his mother, Rolande Ryan of Essex Jct., VT, his sister Susan Perkins and her husband Michael of Georgia, VT, his brother Robert and his wife Laurie of Waltham, MA and several nieces and nephews; Mathew Ryan, Denise, David, Nicole & Jason Maille. Mike was also predeceased by his brother Ronald Ryan. He also leaves his father-in-law Leo Gadouas of Venice, FL, a brother-in-law Aaron Gadouas of Chicago, IL, a grand niece and nephew and many aunts, uncles and cousins of Quebec.

The family of Michael Ryan would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the caring staff at Our Lady of the Meadow in Richford and the Green Mountain Nursing Home & Rehabilitation in Colchester for their care, patience and genuine concern for Mike during his illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 21, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Parish in Essex Jct. followed by a reception in the parish hall.
